Wood burning remains a significant from the Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority (HSY). While wood burning has slightly declined in recent years, particularly in newly built homes, it continues to be a major factor affecting air quality.
Over 70% of detached houses use wood for heating
HSY’s latest survey examined wood burning habits and emissions from residential heating in the region. There are approximately 75,000 detached houses in the Helsinki metropolitan area, with more than 70% using wood as a heating .
