Antti Salminen, who served as state secretary to two ministers from the Finns Party, has resigned from his post, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed this week.

Salminen had worked with Interior Minister Mari Rantanen and Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman for about a year. His resignation took effect in early May. Before his government role, Salminen worked in cybersecurity and as a project employee for the Finns Party.

Rantanen commented briefly on the resignation via message, stating, “There’s no drama. Antti is looking at other opportunities, and we are searching for a new [state secretary].”

Salminen did not respond to a request for comment.

As part of the reshuffle, the Finns Party is reorganising state secretary duties. Marjo Lindgren, who previously served as state secretary to Transport Minister Lulu Ranne and Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso, will now assist both Ranne and Rydman.

This change means that a new state secretary must also be found for Juuso, in addition to Rantanen.

Political state secretaries are senior aides who support ministers in political steering and policy preparation. They can also act as stand-ins for ministers when needed.
