Finland recorded its highest temperature of the year on Wednesday, with a weather station in Rauma measuring 22.9°C.

Warm air and clear skies pushed temperatures above 21°C in several locations along the country’s west and southwest coast. Turku saw a high of 21.9°C and Pori reached 21.5°C.

The readings mark an unseasonably warm period for mid-April. According to Aleksi Lohtander, meteorologist at Yle, the warm trend will continue into the start of Easter weekend. Temperatures are expected to rise as high as 23°C in southern Finland on Good Friday.

“Conditions will remain sunny and warm until Saturday,” Lohtander said. “After that, milder and cloudier weather is expected through Easter Sunday.”

Despite the week’s unusually high temperatures, the national April temperature record remains intact. The highest temperature ever recorded in Finland during April was 25.5°C in Jyväskylä in 1921.
