Helsinki and surrounding areas are expected to see the warmest days of the summer so far this week, with temperatures forecast to climb as high as 25°C after a cold and unsettled June.
According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute and private forecaster Foreca, the capital region will experience clear skies and rising temperatures beginning Monday evening. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the mercury is expected to reach 24°C in Helsinki and up to 25°C in Vantaa.
Espoo is forecast to see highs between 23°C and 24°C. Foreca stated that temperatures across the metropolitan area will range from 20°C to 25°C during the early part of the week.
Henriikka Heikinoja, meteorologist at Yle, confirmed that nearly the entire country will surpass the 20°C mark by Tuesday. The highest temperatures will occur in southern and central Finland, with Lapland also approaching 20°C.
Wednesday is predicted to be the week’s warmest day, particularly in southern regions where the national threshold for a heatwave, 25°C, may be reached in several locations. These will be the first such readings of the season in many parts of the country.
Despite the temporary shift to warmer conditions, weather models suggest the pattern will change by Thursday. A low-pressure system is forecast to approach Finland, bringing cooler air and unstable weather to much of the country.
By Friday, daytime highs are expected to fall to around 19°C to 20°C, and rain showers are likely to return over the weekend.
Meteorologists urged residents to enjoy the brief period of summer warmth while it lasts. Heikinoja described the midweek conditions as the best opportunity this week for outdoor activities.
Foreca noted that long-term forecasts remain uncertain, with changing pressure systems affecting temperature predictability beyond Thursday.
