A Finnish company is under investigation for serious financial crimes related to a contract to supply bulletproof vests to the Ukrainian military, according to the National Bureau of Investigation (KRP).

The €5.7 million deal, signed with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence, involved delivering 10,000 protective vests. The company sent 5,000 units in the summer of 2022. Investigators now believe the products did not meet the agreed quality standards.

The KRP suspects one individual at the company of aggravated fraud, aggravated embezzlement, and aggravated money laundering.

Three people were originally under investigation, with two detained during the pre-trial phase. Authorities are now focusing on a single suspect.

Lead investigator Mikko Laaksonen said the preliminary investigation is almost complete and will soon be transferred to the prosecution service unless additional investigative requests arise.

The probe began after Ukraine issued a formal request for legal assistance in late 2023. Finnish and Ukrainian authorities have cooperated closely throughout the investigation.
