The Finnish Aviation Union has issued a third strike warning affecting ground staff at Finnish airports on 7 July. The warning follows earlier notices for stoppages on 2 and 4 July. Each of the planned actions will last four hours.
The National Conciliator’s Office confirmed the third warning on Sunday via the social media platform X. The stoppage will affect several airport service companies involved in baggage handling, technical services, catering, cargo, and air navigation.
Finnair has cancelled hundreds of flights as a result of the ongoing dispute. Last week, the airline cancelled 140 flights on Tuesday and 128 flights on Thursday.
The conflict stems from a disagreement between the Finnish Aviation Union and the Service Sector Employers group, Palta. The union is demanding compensation for pay increases it says were agreed but not implemented during the pandemic years.
Palta has denied that any such agreement existed.
Negotiations between the parties are expected to resume on Monday morning. The National Conciliator’s Office said talks will continue throughout the week if needed.
The current dispute has been ongoing for six months. Industrial action has already disrupted several key services at Finnish airports in recent months.
The Aviation Union represents workers across multiple critical sectors at airports. Its members include baggage handlers, technicians, catering workers, cargo operators and air traffic support staff.
