Finnair will cancel 143 flights on Tuesday due to industrial action at Helsinki Airport, affecting around 6,500 passengers.

The cancellations follow strike plans by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU), which will disrupt airport operations, particularly baggage handling. The airline said more cancellations could follow on Thursday.

Finnair has advised travellers to check in early, arrive well in advance of departure, and ensure that essential items, including medications, are packed in their hand luggage.

The planned strike falls during the peak of Midsummer week, a busy travel period in Finland. Finnair previously said it would cancel most flights on both Tuesday and Thursday if the industrial action proceeds.

The airline said it will notify passengers about Thursday’s possible cancellations on Tuesday.

Finnair has faced repeated disruptions since spring, with ongoing union walkouts leading to the cancellation of hundreds of flights. An estimated 200,000 passengers have been affected, prompting a sharp rise in contacts to customer service.
