Finland recorded its first hot day of the year on Saturday, as temperatures reached 25.2 degrees Celsius in Ylivieska, Northern Ostrobothnia.
Meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander from Yle confirmed that the 25-degree mark was passed just before 5pm at Ylivieska Airport. The temperature surpasses Finland’s official threshold for a “hot day”, known locally as a hellepäivä.
Warm conditions were observed widely across southern and central Finland throughout the day, with many locations reporting temperatures exceeding 20 degrees.
Beaches and public spaces saw increased activity as residents took advantage of the seasonal warmth. In Espoo, locals gathered at Matinkylä beach to swim and spend time outdoors.
Meteorological forecasts predict that the warm weather will continue into Sunday, with temperatures expected to remain high in most parts of the country.
