Temperatures in Finland to drop as low as -25°C this week

LEHTIKUVA

Finland is set to experience a significant drop in temperatures this week, with forecasts predicting lows of -25°C in the north and close to -20°C in the south. The cold snap is expected to continue into next week, though snowfall will remain scarce in many regions.

According to meteorologists, the severity of the freeze will depend on cloud cover.

In clear conditions, overnight temperatures in Lapland could plunge to -30°C, while central Finland may see -20°C. The shift to colder weather will begin midweek as winds turn north.

Despite the freezing conditions, snowfall will be minimal. Only northern Lapland is expected to receive a few centimetres of snow, while southern and southwestern Finland will likely remain snow-free. This means that winter holidaymakers in the south looking for ski-friendly conditions will need to travel north, where snow coverage remains stable.

Lapland, which saw unusually mild temperatures of up to +7°C last week, will also experience the sharpest cooling. The arrival of Arctic air could bring widespread temperatures between -20°C and -30°C in the region. Central Finland will see daytime temperatures ranging from -3°C to -15°C, with colder nights.

While Finland’s southern regions will also feel the chill, snow remains unlikely. Forecasts indicate that any precipitation will be light, leaving the already snow-deprived areas without significant improvement.
