Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia are visiting Finland today to mark the 50th anniversary of the Hanasaari Swedish-Finnish cultural centre in Espoo.

The royal couple will take part in a formal celebration at the centre, which promotes bilateral cooperation in culture, education, and society.

President Alexander Stubb and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb are also attending the event.

President Stubb and King Carl Gustaf are scheduled to deliver speeches. The programme also includes musical performances and a panel discussion on the future of Swedish-Finnish relations.

Participants in the discussion include Sweden’s former Prime Minister Carl Bildt.

Hanasaari was inaugurated on 1 June 1975 by President Urho Kekkonen and the newly crowned King Carl Gustaf.
