Support for Finland’s Social Democratic Party has risen to its highest level in nearly two decades, while backing for the Finns Party has dropped sharply, according to a new poll by Helsingin Sanomat.
The poll shows the SDP, led by Antti Lindtman, has reached 25.3 percent support among respondents. This marks a 1.1 percentage point increase since March and the party’s strongest performance since early 2006, when support peaked at 25.8 percent.
The Finns Party, by contrast, saw a significant decline. Backing for the party fell by 3.7 percentage points, with only 10.5 percent of respondents now indicating they would vote for them. The drop places the party behind the Centre Party for the first time in months.
The National Coalition Party, led by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, remains the second most supported party with 19.9 percent, up 0.6 points since the previous survey.
The Centre Party also gained support, reaching 15.3 percent and overtaking the Finns Party in the rankings. The Green League held steady at 8.8 percent, while the Left Alliance recorded 8.4 percent.
Verian conducted the survey between April and May, interviewing around 3,700 people. The margin of error is 1.7 percentage points for the largest parties.
