Midsummer Day in Finland is set to be largely rainy and cool, following a clear and mild Midsummer Eve, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

Saturday night’s celebrations under the stars will feature clear skies and calm conditions, offering a final opportunity for outdoor festivities before the weather turns. From Saturday morning, a low-pressure system will bring cloud cover and showers across Finland, especially in the south and central regions.

Rainfall is expected to total 5–15 mm, though “it won’t be heavy” rain, meteorologist Pinja Rauhamäki notes. Some western parts may even experience thunderstorms.

Temperatures will drop sharply compared to Midsummer Eve. While Tammisaari reached a daytime high of 21.3 °C, most areas will struggle to reach 15 °C on Saturday, although southern coastal areas may see highs just above that mark.

Midsummer Day itself will bring clearer skies mainly in Lapland and parts of Eastern Finland—regions like North Karelia are forecast to enjoy better conditions. In northern Lapland, however, daytime temperatures will remain around 10 °C.

By Sunday morning, the low-pressure system will move away, clearing the skies and raising temperatures once more. Eastern Finland and most of Lapland could still see light showers, but southern and western areas will hover between 17–18 °C, with eastern and central Lapland around 15 °C.

Although Midsummer won’t be warm, the forecast describes temperatures as “quite normal” for the season, Rauhamäki says. It may not be ideal for traditional sauna or lake celebrations, but the weekend won’t be unusually cold.
