The Parliamentary Supervisory Council has proposed Olli Rehn for a second term as Governor of the Bank of Finland. If confirmed, Rehn will continue in the role for another seven-year term starting on 12 July 2025.
Rehn has served as Governor since 2018. His reappointment must be approved by the Finnish Government and then formally decided by the President of the Republic.
The selection process attracted eight applicants. The Governor of the Bank of Finland also serves as Chair of the Bank’s Board. Under Finnish law, the position has a fixed seven-year term, and the same person can be appointed for a second term.
Rehn, a former EU Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, has played a key role in shaping Finland’s monetary policy and financial stability. His leadership has included navigating economic challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, inflationary pressures, and shifts in European Central Bank policy.
The final decision on the appointment is expected in the coming months.
