Trade Union JHL will launch its fifth handling blockade on 24 February in solidarity with the Industrial Union’s pay negotiations. The action will continue until 28 February unless an agreement is reached earlier.

The negotiations have remained deadlocked for months, with no deal that employees find acceptable.

“The proposed pay rises are too low. Inflation has significantly weakened purchasing power, and workers need increases that genuinely address this loss,” said Håkan Ekström, president of JHL.

The handling blockade, a legal form of industrial action, will affect cargo operations in ports and rail transport. Workers will refuse to load or unload goods from companies targeted by the action, and transport employees may decline to move affected shipments.

JHL’s first blockade began in late January, and similar actions have followed weekly. Other unions, including AKT, PAM, the Finnish Seafarers’ Union, the Finnish Construction Trade Union, and the Finnish Electrical Workers’ Union, have also taken support measures.

The blockade applies to several major companies, including Outokumpu Stainless, SSAB Europe, and Meyer Turku. The full list of affected businesses includes key players in metal, mining, and manufacturing.
