Korkeasaari Zoo is launching its first conservation project focused on insects to protect the critically endangered Depressaria chaerophylli moth, whose survival is threatened by habitat loss and planned construction in Helsinki’s Lapinlahti park.
The small brown moth, protected under Finnish conservation law, has only three known habitats in the country: Helsinki, Inkoo and Kaarina.
The moth depends on the presence of tuberous chervil (Chaerophyllum bulbosum) plants, which serve as the sole food
