Timo Vornanen, a former Finns Party Member of Parliament, faces multiple criminal charges following a shooting incident outside a karaoke bar in central Helsinki in April 2024.
Prosecutors have charged Vornanen with assault, two counts of unlawful threat, endangering the life or health of another person, and a firearms offence.
Police believe Vornanen fired a shot into the ground during an altercation in the early hours of the morning.
The incident began inside the bar and continued on the street. Investigators suspect he also pointed the weapon at two people involved in the dispute.
According to the investigation, Vornanen, who previously worked in law enforcement, used a firearm in a threatening manner. He is also the plaintiff in charges filed against two other individuals involved in the same event.
The incident led to Vornanen’s expulsion from the Finns Party’s parliamentary group. The party later removed him entirely. He has since continued in Parliament as a one-man group.
The Helsinki District Court will hear the case, with the trial date expected to be announced shortly.
