Support for the Finns Party has dropped to 11.4% in Yle’s latest political opinion poll, marking a significant decline from the 20.1% they received in the 2023 parliamentary election.

The drop represents a four-point fall since last month’s survey. The party has been on a downward trend since joining Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s four-party coalition, which has introduced unpopular spending cuts.

According to Jari Pajunen from polling agency Taloustutkimus, the Finns Party is losing voters to political disengagement and rival parties, including the Centre Party, Social Democrats, and Orpo’s National Coalition.

Pajunen compared the decline to 2015, when the party also lost support after joining a government under then-Prime Minister Juha Sipilä and accepting austerity measures. In that instance, the party’s support fell by 4.3 percentage points.

This month’s figures show support for the governing coalition at 39%, the lowest since it took office. At the time of the 2023 election, the coalition’s combined support stood at 52%.

Among the four coalition parties, Orpo’s National Coalition has maintained its position best, polling at 20.2%. In the 2023 election, the party recorded 20.8%.

Meanwhile, the Centre Party continues its steady rise under the leadership of Antti Kaikkonen, gaining ground as voter dissatisfaction with the coalition grows. The Social Democrats, now in opposition, have also seen an increase in support following criticism of the government’s budget policies.

The Greens and Christian Democrats also registered losses in the poll, though on a smaller scale compared to the Finns Party.

The latest survey results reflect a growing challenge for the governing coalition, which faces pressure to reverse its declining public support amid a turbulent political landscape.
