Most Finns perceive their local government as distant and hard to access, yet many still believe voting in municipal elections can influence their daily lives, according to a new survey by the Finnish Business and Policy Forum EVA.
The spring 2025 Values and Attitudes survey found that 59 percent of respondents consider municipal decision-making and governance to be remote or alienating.
Although this number remains high, it marks an improvement from 2017, when 70 percent shared the same view.
Despite the sense of distance, 56 percent of respondents said they are interested in local politics and follow municipal matters actively. Among this group, nearly half (47 percent) still feel that local governance is inaccessible.
