The Finnish Defence Forces will mark Flag Day on 4 June 2025 with flight demonstrations and a military parade in Kuopio. The programme includes multiple air displays throughout the day, featuring Finnish and allied aircraft.
The city centre and harbour area of Kuopio will experience increased noise as jets and helicopters take part in scheduled performances. Activities will begin in the morning and continue into the evening.
The first flight, a demonstration by a Finnish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet, is scheduled for 10:45 over the harbour. A Finnish Army NH90 transport helicopter will conduct a hovering display near Väinölänniemi Stadium at 11:15.
A major flypast will open the parade on Satamakatu at 13:15. It will include Finnish F/A-18 Hornets from Karelia Air Wing, two Royal Norwegian Air Force F-35A Lightning II jets, and two Swedish Air Force JAS 39 Gripens. Four Finnish Hawk jet trainers from the Air Force Academy will close the formation. The aircraft will fly at approximately 300 metres altitude, entering from the south along Satamakatu.
Later demonstrations include another Finnish Hornet display at 14:15 and a final performance by the Midnight Hawks aerobatic team from 17:50 to 18:00 over the harbour.
After the main flypast, marching detachments and ground units will proceed along Satamakatu. The aerial segment will continue with Finnish Army MD500 and NH90 helicopters, followed by motorised detachments to close the parade.
Separate flypasts will take place in Rovaniemi and Tampere. At 08:05, Fighter Squadron 11 from the Lapland Air Wing will fly a single F/A-18 Hornet over the Air Defence Monument at the Rovaniemi garrison. In Tampere, the Satakunta Air Wing will fly an F/A-18 Hornet over Kalevankangas Cemetery during a wreath-laying ceremony at 12:00.
All air activities are weather dependent. The Finnish Defence Forces have advised residents of Kuopio to expect aircraft noise, especially in the harbour and central areas.
