Finnair will cancel around 60 flights on Friday as a result of industrial action by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU), affecting an estimated 6,000 passengers.
The four-hour work stoppage will disrupt ground handling and catering operations during multiple shifts, limiting the airline’s ability to operate normally. Finnair said it is working to reroute customers as quickly as possible.
“We are very sorry for the changes to our customers’ travel plans caused by this situation,” Finnair Chief Operating Officer Jaakko Schildt said in a statement.
The airline confirmed that passengers will be informed of cancellations once systems have been updated and will then receive new travel arrangements.
A similar strike earlier in May resulted in the cancellation of 140 flights.
The IAU has been in negotiations with the service sector employers’ organisation Palta since January over a new collective agreement for air transport services. Talks have yet to produce an outcome.
The union has also issued notice of another four-hour industrial action for Monday. Finnair said that if the strike goes ahead, it would again cause major disruptions.
