Finland’s ongoing heatwave will continue through the weekend and into early next week, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, with temperatures likely to stay above 25°C in most regions until at least Tuesday.

The current stretch of hot weather has already lasted two weeks and could reach 18 consecutive days if conditions remain stable through Monday.

“The highest chances for continued heat are in southeastern Finland,” said Vendi Pelkonen, on-call meteorologist at the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

Although the current heat streak is notable, it remains far from the national record set in 1973, when Finland experienced 38 straight days of hot weather.

According to forecasts, the weather is expected to shift midweek. Localised showers and thunderstorms will become more common from Thursday onward.

“Rain can bring temporary relief, cooling temperatures to around 20 to 25 degrees,” Pelkonen said. “But where it stays dry, highs of 25 to 30 degrees are still likely.”

In Lapland, conditions are expected to cool slightly earlier. Temperatures in the northern region are forecast to drop to around 20°C by Wednesday or Thursday. Southern and central Finland will follow, with broader cooling expected to begin early next week.

By midweek, temperatures across the country are predicted to return to seasonal norms, ranging from 17 to 22 degrees.

Despite the shift, Pelkonen warned that sudden storms and high humidity could still cause discomfort during the transition.
