The Finnish Tax Administration has begun issuing pre-completed tax returns for 2024, with self-employed individuals and agricultural operators among the first to access them. These tax returns will be available in MyTax from 27–28 February, with a deadline for corrections set for 1 April.
Nikke Jokitie, Senior Tax Specialist at the Tax Administration, encourages taxpayers to review their pre-filled information early and submit any missing data as soon as possible.
Those who provide updates in advance may receive tax refunds earlier, with the first payments scheduled for July and August 2025.
“Submitting your information in MyTax ahead of time ensures that your tax return is more accurate when it arrives. This applies to travel expense deductions, tax credits for household expenses, and deductions related to maintaining a second home for work,” Jokitie said.
Taxpayers are advised to check their pre-completed tax returns carefully and report any missing or incorrect income or deductions. While the Tax Administration automatically receives data from third parties, some details must be provided manually. For instance, individuals who sold stocks, earned income from social media, or incurred deductible work expenses must ensure this information is included.
Special requirements for business owners and farmers
Self-employed individuals operating under a business name must also submit a business tax return by 1 April, even if they had no activity in 2024. Agricultural operators, in addition to their personal tax return, must file separate tax returns for their farm and any forestry operations.
Farmers who wish to apply for an energy tax refund must do so by 28 February. According to Senior Tax Specialist Katja Kulha, only the person listed as the recipient of farm subsidies can submit this application.
“The refund request must come from the same individual who received the subsidy decision; otherwise, the application will be rejected,” Kulha said.
Key tax deadlines in spring 2025
- 28 February: Tax returns for forestry, agriculture, and VAT payments (for those reporting VAT annually)
- 1 April: Tax return deadline for self-employed individuals, agricultural operators, and business owners
- 15–29 April: Three separate deadlines for wage earners and pensioners to make corrections to their tax returns
