Finland is expected to experience higher-than-average temperatures from July through October, according to the latest seasonal forecasts. The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) indicates that the period from August to October will be warmer than usual across Northern Europe, including Finland.
Meteorologist Iiris Idoko from the Finnish Meteorological Institute stated that a high-pressure system is anticipated to bring widespread heat across the country. “We expect temperatures to rise significantly, especially in the southern and central regions,” she said.
In the immediate term, heavy rainfall is forecasted for Tuesday, particularly in southern and southeastern Finland, with precipitation levels potentially exceeding 50 millimetres in some areas. However, from Wednesday onwards, the weather is expected to become drier and warmer, with temperatures reaching up to 25°C in many parts of the country.
July has already seen fluctuating weather patterns, with periods of rain and cooler temperatures. Despite this, the overall trend points towards a warmer late summer. The ECMWF’s seasonal outlook suggests that the average temperatures for the coming months will be above the historical norm, with a possibility of extended heatwaves.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute advises residents to stay updated with local weather forecasts and to prepare for potential heatwaves, especially in urban areas where temperatures can be higher due to the urban heat island effect.
