Family weekend returns with kids’ fair, pet events and food celebration

Families, parents-to-be, and childcare professionals will gather in Helsinki this weekend for the annual Lapsimessut (Children’s Fair) event, held from 11 to 13 April at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre. The fair will run in parallel with the Food Fair and Pet Fair, offering a wide range of content for all ages.

This year marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between Lapsimessut and the Finnish Swimming Teaching and Lifesaving Federation (SUH), which aims to encourage water safety and swimming skills among children.

The family-focused programme includes live music for toddlers, theatre performances, activity zones, and expert discussions on parenting, travel safety, and child development. Visitors will also find exhibits tailored to those planning for parenthood, alongside services and products for growing families.

“Lapsimessut is the largest and most diverse event of its kind in Northern Europe,” said Satu Papadopoulos, Business Manager at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre. “It brings together families, food lovers, and pet owners into one lively and colourful spring weekend.”

The Pet Fair, taking place on Saturday and Sunday, invites animal lovers of all ages to explore the world of domestic animals, with educational talks and demonstrations. A dog fashion show will debut at the event for the first time, showcasing canine clothing and accessories on the runway.

Another highlight is “Temptation’s Highway,” a track where dogs can demonstrate their sense of smell and obedience skills.

Visitors can also learn about feline agility, a sport that has grown in popularity in recent years. The Finnish Agility Cats Association will give a live demonstration, led by Chair Kiia Ahaja and Vice Chair Jenni Yli-Tainio, accompanied by 2024’s top agility cats Hulina, Neko, and Poju.

The entire three-day fair promises hands-on experiences, guidance, and inspiration for families navigating childhood, care, and pet ownership.
