More than 30 hikers have reported symptoms of stomach illness while trekking in Urho Kekkonen National Park, prompting authorities to evacuate those in weakened condition and urge caution among visitors.
The Finnish state forest agency Metsähallitus said by Wednesday morning it had received reports from over 30 individuals suffering from gastrointestinal symptoms. The cases have been recorded across multiple locations in the park, making it difficult to trace the origin of the outbreak.
On Tuesday, only ten cases were known. Since then, two hikers from separate groups have been evacuated by emergency services, with a third evacuation in progress as of Wednesday morning.

At present, there are no plans to close wilderness huts or outdoor toilets within the park. Officials continue to monitor the situation and assess whether additional restrictions are needed.
