Reports of domestic violence in Finland increased by two percent in 2024, according to new data from Statistics Finland. Authorities recorded around 13,000 incidents involving approximately 12,500 victims.

The majority of victims, about 74 percent, were adult women.

Despite the overall increase, the number of underage victims declined. Reports of violence by parents against their children also fell compared to 2023.

Statistics Finland noted that while some forms of domestic violence showed a slight drop, overall victim numbers have grown, particularly among adult partners. The data did not include information on fatal cases or outcomes of investigations.

Investigation processing times have lengthened, making it more difficult for cases to be resolved swiftly. No specific causes for the delay were given.

The annual report did not offer a regional breakdown or address the impact of legislative or policy changes, but officials continue to monitor trends in both reporting and response times.
