Finnish Customs has launched a preliminary investigation into an aggravated money counterfeiting case after seizing over €90,000 in suspected counterfeit banknotes.
The investigation began in week 7 when customs officers intercepted an express courier parcel from Italy containing €60,000 in €200 banknotes. A technical examination suggested the notes were counterfeit.
Following this discovery, one suspect was apprehended in Finland. During searches of the suspect’s possessions and facilities, authorities seized an additional €34,200 in €50 banknotes, also suspected to be counterfeit.
Preliminary findings indicate that counterfeit €50 notes may have already entered circulation. Customs has released serial numbers of the identified counterfeit notes and urges the public to check any €50 or €200 banknotes they may have.
The serial numbers of the counterfeit €50 notes are:
- ES8125815125
- FB8477117453
- BS1473810574
- SE5325815512
- SF2555812181
The serial number of the counterfeit €200 note is:
- EA5086938835
Authorities have no confirmed reports of counterfeit €200 banknotes being circulated but urge vigilance.
Customs requests that anyone in possession of a €50 or €200 note matching these serial numbers report it by calling 0800 14 600 or using the online tip-off form.
